According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Injury Prevention, “More than one-third of people aged 65 and older fall each year, and those who fall once are two to three times more likely to fall again,” and over 6000 seniors in San Diego County are hospitalized annually because of a fall bringing an average bill of $33,000. The San Diego County Fall Prevention Task Force reports that 60% of falls in the county that result in a hospitalization occur at home. Anyone going home at risk for falls is eligible for free home safety and falls prevention education, as well as their family and anyone helping take care of those at risk for falls.
